Auburn football’s head coach Alex Golesh feels the Tigers are not where he wants them to be in terms of situational awareness.

The Tigers completed their second scrimmage of fall camp earlier this week, and Golesh brought to light he wants his players to be better at situational football.

“We are not very good right now on both sides with truly recognizing situational football and the guys taking control of it,” Golesh said. “What I mean by that is just simply understanding where it is, rather than just playing the next play. Where are we? What is the situation? What are we trying to do? That takes time and that takes the play callers being on the same page with the guys. That is why I say we still need two more days of us working on us, to get closer to that.”

The Tigers’ youth is playing a huge role in this lack of awareness, according to Golesh.

“What I am not super happy with right now is just purely the situational football execution and even the recognition of it,” Golesh said. “A lot of that comes with being a young football team.”

Auburn is continuing to work to be prepared for its season opener against Baylor on Sept. 5.
