DeShawn Spencer continues to find his footing at wide receiver for the Auburn Tigers during his transition to college football.
Spencer is a product of Saraland High School in Alabama, and he is set to enter his freshman season as a Tiger this fall. The maturity level he is putting on display in fall camp is something Alex Golesh is speaking highly of.
“I said this in the spring, you saw it in the spring game, he's mature beyond his years in the sense of football intelligence,” Golesh said. “He comes from a really good program. He's been coached really hard. All he's done is win. And then it translates really, really quickly because he's come in, he's worked incredibly hard. He's got stuff you can't really coach. Like, he's got really good spatial awareness. He's got a knack to go get the football. And for not being a big kid yet, he's got a frame where he'll carry it. He's just 18 years old, just turned 18. He’s a kid that, that has got a really, really bright future.”
Auburn football quarterback Byrum Brown sees a veteran when he looks at Spencer, despite him not playing a college football yet.
“He practiced like a vet,” Brown said. “He practiced like a real deal vet. Come to work each and every single day, always looking to get better. I can't be more happy to have him on my team making plays, making catches as a young buck.”
Spencer looks to still be on pace to make an impact in year one at Auburn.
