Auburn football leads Southern Miss at halftime in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Here is a look at the ways the Tigers can continue to have success in the second half and build for the future:
- Cut Down On Penalties
Penalties hurt the Auburn Tigers on multiple occasions against Southern Miss in the first half. Fortunately for the Tigers, they were able to overcome the penalties and keep their offense moving in a forward direction, despite a penalty wiping points off teh board in the first quarter when a holding erases a long rushing touchdown by Byrum Brown.
- Be Loyal To Rushing Attack
Auburn's first efficient drive in the first quarter appears to have been a result of the run game setting up a wide open connection between Brown and Jonathan Echols. Multiple successful runs early on the drive looked to have opened up things down the field for the Tigers. More loyalty to running the football with Jeremiah Cobb, Omar Mabson and company could eventually pay major dividends.
- Continue To Excel At Making Open-Field Tackles
Auburn's defense is closing on the football fairly quick, and it is hard to ignore this unit is playing fast and physical. There are multiple Tiger defenders playing sideline to sideline with their hair on fire. When they finally make it home to their target, they are also making their presence felt.
Consistent Play Out Of Secondary
- The Tigers' secondary is once again getting tested at times in this one. Ethan Hampton is not making the caliber of throws that DJ Lagway made against the Tigers, but he is finding success hitting targets in the gaps of the Auburn defense. The Tigers' defense will likely have plenty of opportunities to limit the Golden Eagles in the air in the second half.
